With a special doodle, Google is Celebrating the 133rd birth anniversary of India's first female legislator, Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy. As the first woman legislator in the country, Dr Reddy has been the first to be a legislator. Google remembers Reddy as a teacher, social reformer, surgeon and administrator. Dr Reddy devoted her life to the good health of the people. At the same time, she always continued her fight to make gender discrimination and women's lives better.

If you talk about her life, Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy was born on July 30, 1883, in Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu. Her parents wanted to get her married at an early age, but Dr Reddy protested against the idea of completing her studies. After completing her early education, she enrolled in Madras Medical College for medical studies. The first female medical student in the college was also a doctorate.

Reddy was there. It was the college where she had a friendship with Annie Besant and Sarojini Naidu. Reddy left her medical career and turned to politics. After becoming the first woman member of the Madras Assembly, she framed rules to prevent the marriage of girls at an early age and raised her voice against the exploitation of women in society.

For your information, tell us that Dr Reddy was deeply shocked by her sister's cancer death. She then started the Adyar Cancer Institute in Chennai in 1954. This cancer hospital is still one of the world's most respected cancer hospitals. More than 80,000 cancer victims are treated here every year. In 1956, they were awarded Padma Bhushan by the Government of India for serving the country. Dedicated to the betterment of the society, Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy passed away on 22nd July 1968 in Chennai.
