Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the iconic life and legacy that the ‘Godfather of Voguing’ left behind. American dancer and choreographer William Roscoe Leake was known as Willi Ninja. 

June 9 marks the 62nd birthday anniversary of the iconic dancer Willi Ninja. Known for his work toward Black LGBTQ+ representation and acceptance in the 1980s and 1990s, Willi came to be known as the Godfather of Voguing.

Archie Burnett Ninja, Javier Madrid Ninja, Kiki Ninja, and Akiko Tokuoka aka KiT Ninja, the current members of the House of Ninja, danced in celebration as part of the Google Doodle honouring Willi's legacy during Pride Month.
Voguing is a modern house dance style that was developed in the 1980s during the Harlem Renaissance. It is highly stylized.
