New Delhi [India], May 11 (NT): On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of legendary dancer and Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardee Mrinalini Sarabhai, Google celebrates with iconic Doodle Today.

She was born on May 11, 1918 in Kerala. Mrinalini Sarabhai trained in Bharatnatyam, Kathakali and Mohiniyattom.

Sarabhai was one of the few classical dancers who trained in more than one form. She was able to swiftly build a career in choreography and teaching. Despite seeing the incessant development of dance forms over her multi-decade career, she was encouraged to choreograph more than three hundred dance dramas with a strong base of classical tradition behind them.

In 1949, Sarabhai and her husband Dr Vikram Sarabhai opened the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts to share the craft with future generations. Her husband is considered as the Father of the Indian Space Programme .

Her small dance academy developed to become not only a study centre for diverse art forms but one that used the power of arts to convey about positive change to the decisive issues facing society.

She was honored by the Padma Shri in 1965 and Padma Bhushan in 1992. Mrinalini Sarabhai met with her angles at the age of 97 in January 2016.
