Google Doodle Honours ISRO Founder Vikram Sarabhai's 100th Birthday

We're all aware that search engine Google often dedicates its doodle to someone special. Today, Google has dedicated its doodle to Indian scientist Vikram Sarabhai. Yes, today is the 100th birth anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai and the success that India has achieved in such a great way in space science goes only to the great scientist Vikram Sarabhai. Vikram Sarabhai's doodle was made by Mumbai artist Pawan Rajurkar.

Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai was born in Ahmedabad on 12 august 1919 and his father Ambalal Sarabhai was a thriving industrialist and was the owner of several mills in Gujarat. He achieved a doctorate from St. John's College at Cambridge University and became a scientist who always helped the young scientist to move forward.  Sarabhai founded the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad in 1947 and Vikram Sarabhai has been awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 1962. He has been awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1966 and Padma Vibhushan in 1972.

The establishment of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is considered one of the great achievements of Vikram Sarabhai. In fact, after the launch of the Russian Sputnik, he persuaded the government about the importance of the space programme for a developing country like India and said the country needs it and then Dr. Sarabhai said, "We need it. Sarabhai emphasized the importance of the space program in his quote. In addition to ISRO and PRL, he extended his hand in setting up several institutions. At the same time, he served as Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and played an important role in the establishment of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, in association with other industrialists based in Ahmedabad.

Vikram Sarabhai who played a key role in achieving milestones in the world of space died on December 30, 1971 in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
