NEW DELHI: Google is rolling out new updates to reduce low-quality and unoriginal content in Search results, making it easier for people to find helpful content. A search engine ranking update called the "Helpful Content Update" will begin rolling out globally to English language users on August 22.

We are aware that information that appears to have been created more to entice clicks than to inform readers is not beneficial. In order to make it simpler for users to find helpful material created especially by and for people, we're launching a number of updates to Search starting next week for English users globally, said Danny Sullivan, Public Liaison for Search.

In a blog post published late on Thursday, he added that this upgrade would help ensure that "unoriginal, low-quality content doesn't rank highly in Search, notably for online-educational resources, entertainment, shopping, and tech-related information.

The new ranking change joins a related initiative that has been made in the past year to prioritise higher-quality product review content, which will also receive an update.

According to Google, these initiatives collectively are a part of a larger, continuing effort to lessen low-quality material and make it simpler to access stuff in Search that feels genuine and helpful.

"For example, if you search for information about a new movie, you'll see more results with unique, authentic information, so you're more likely to read something you haven't seen before," the company informed.
Google started a series of improvements last year to provide more beneficial, in-depth reviews based on first-hand knowledge of search results.

We have continued to refine these systems, and in the coming weeks, we will roll out another update to make it even easier to find high-quality, original reviews," said the company.
