USA: In order to help people stay safe during heat waves, Google is launching a new extreme heat alert in the Search tab. The search engine will show information like the start and end dates of a heat wave when you conduct a search on extreme heat. In the upcoming months, the new functionality will be implemented.

Google has been displaying alerts for natural disasters like wildfires, earthquakes, and hurricanes among others for a few years now. The company is now concentrating on reducing the impact of climate change-related events like heat waves.

Given that nearly 500,000 people die from extreme heat each year, the company's most recent innovation may have a significant effect.

The new heat alert will also provide cooling tips and alert users to associated health risks. The search results will show all of this related information.

To guarantee that the data displayed is accurate, the company worked with the Global Heat Health Information Network. The tech giant disclosed that in July 2022, searches for heat waves peaked.

According to Hema Budaraju, senior director of product for health and search at Google, "soon, you will see dedicated features highlighting relevant news and recommended actions and local information during a severe heat wave." The new heat alert is just one of the many ways we're updating Search to make it easier for people to locate timely, reliable, and useful information when they need it most.

A tool that combines aerial imagery and AI called "Tree Canopy" has also been introduced by Google. It can aid in better planning urban forestry initiatives and assisting cities in understanding their current tree coverage.

From 14 cities, the feature has grown to nearly 350 cities worldwide, including Atlanta, Lisbon, Mexico City, Paris, Sydney, and Toronto. This year, the company wants to expand the tool to thousands more cities.
