New Delhi: The Central Government is ready for the 5G spectrum. The Department of Telecommunications, Government of India has issued 5G test orders in all available spectrum bands. The department can allocate 400 MHz spectrum for this test. The Department of Telecommunications has fixed a uniform amount of Rs 5,000 for the licence.

However, its validity will be from three months to two years for the purpose of testing. In this regard, the order issued on 23rd July states that the quantum of spectrum for 5G testing will be of a reasonable standard to show the required or technical capability. The government intends to hold spectrum auctions for 5G services by the end of this year.

According to the plan, 5G services will be commercially launched in 2020. Research and Development, Manufacturing, Telecom Operators and Units in the Education Sector can obtain this licence for research and development and use for a time frame of two years. The department has set a four to an eight-week period for itself to issue test licences.

After the expiry of the period, the applicant can send a notice in case he has not received any reply from the Department of Telecommunications. If the applicant does not get any reply for two weeks after the application is submitted, it will be deemed as a sanction. As per the guidelines, Indian units can also apply for a licence for product performance. The guidelines said that no commercial service can be offered through a trial license.
