New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari often makes heartwarming statements. This time, during a function held in Nagpur, Nitin Gadkari said that 'no law can become a hindrance in the welfare of the poor.' If any law becomes a hindrance in the path of poor welfare, then the government has every right to break or bypass it. The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi also used to say this. Gadkari said, "I know that no law comes in the way of the welfare of the poor, if such a law has to be broken even 10 times, then do not hesitate because Mahatma Gandhi also said the same thing."

During the function, Gadkari said, 'I always tell the officers that according to what you say, the government will not work. You just have to say yes sir. You have to implement what we are saying, you have to implement it. The government will work according to us.' Recalling an incident in 1995, Nitin Gadkari said, 'When Manohar Joshi was the CM in Maharashtra, I often used to tell the officers that according to you the government will not run, the government will run according to us and we will follow what we say.'

Earlier, during a function in Indore, the Union Minister had said that the government has set a target of reducing about 1.5 lakh deaths every year due to road accidents in the country by half by 2024. He said that in this regard, the work of removing "black spots" (places where most road accidents occur) is going on by spending crores of rupees. Speaking at an event organised by NGO Jan Akrosh, Gadkari said around 1.5 lakh persons die in five lakh road accidents in the country every year, while three lakh persons are seriously injured.
