Mumbai: Cases of new omicron variants of corona infection are on the rise across the country. The total number of omicron cases has exceeded 300. Shockingly, about 27 per cent of people who have neither returned from foreign travel nor have come under contact with anyone returning have been found positive from this new variant. Three such cases have been found in the capital Delhi. These patients have been infected due to the wedding ceremony at the five star hotel. As a result, the central government has now put major cities in seven states on alert.

In the meantime, it is noteworthy that the Union Health Ministry has not yet confirmed The Community Transmission (Community Dissemination) of Omicron. But the government is likely to see community expansion in these metros first. These include metros in states and Union Territories such as Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal and Odisha. Here a sample of each patient found infected with corona will be sent for genome sequencing. The Health Ministry has issued written instructions to the Director and Secretary of Health in the matter.

According to a report received from the ministry, 222 cases of omicron variant were registered till Wednesday night. Out of these, 60 patients could not get travel related information. All of them come from big metros like Delhi and Mumbai. The Ministry has written to all these states for genome sequencing to keep the situation under control in the long run. In this regard, the lab related to the network of Indian SARS-Covi-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has been informed. So as to ensure genome sequencing of each patient. The process has started in Delhi since last Wednesday. There are four labs where genome sequencing of 100-125 samples is taking place.
