Madhya Pradesh State government in all probability will extend shutdown of universities and colleges till April 31 in the light of an increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

"If the situation of Covid-19 did not improve in days to come, there is a strong possibility that the government will extend the shutdown of educational institutions at least by another fifteen days," said Indore division additional director (higher education) Dr Suresh Silawat.

As the Covid-19 graph had come down, the state government had allowed the reopening of educational campuses from January 1 in a phased manner. But the second wave of Covid-19 hit the state in March following which the government had initially ordered for closure of educational institutes campuses from March 20 to March 31 which had to be extended till April 15 as coronavirus infection cases increased.

The situation has turned for the worse and it is very unlikely that Covid-19 cases will down sharply by April 15. So, in all likelihood, the government would have to extend the shutdown of educational institutes at least by a fortnight. The universities and colleges have anticipated this so they are preparing directly for examination and not for holding classes in offline mode.
