Dehradun: In order to encourage sportspersons in Uttarakhand, the government has increased the amount of sports awards drastically. According to the order issued by the Sports Department, the prize money has been increased by 30 to 100 per cent. The order was issued by Jitendra Sonkar, director of the sports department, on Thursday.
According to the order of the Sports Director, the player of the state who wins the gold medal in the Olympic Games will be given prize money of Rs 2 crore. While the silver medal winner will get Rs 1.5 crore and the bronze medal winner will get Rs 1 crore. Prize money of Rs 50 lakh will be given to the player participating in the Olympic Games.
The gold medal winner in the World Cup will get Rs 30 lakh, the silver medal winner will get Rs 20 lakh, the bronze medal winner will get Rs 15 lakh and the player who participates in the World Championship will be given a prize of Rs 30 lakh. The prize money has been increased for the winners of the Commonwealth Games, Asian Championships, Commonwealth as well as other international and national sports events. The prize money has also been increased for junior and sub-junior category players. According to the order, athletes participating in Olympics, World Cups, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games will be given 20 per cent of the amount in advance after selection. According to the order, the gold medal winner in the Asian Games will be given Rs 30 lakh, the silver medal winner will get Rs 20 lakh, the bronze medal winner will get Rs 15 lakh and the player who participates in the games will be given Rs 7.5 lakh.
