Nandita Konwar, an Assam Civil Service officer, was fired by the state government after she was found guilty of corruption. According to sources, the ACS officer sought money for the release of payment over the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) in 2017, when she was working as the Project Director for the Kamrup metro's Dist Rural Development Agency.

Konwar was caught red-handed while taking a bribe in 2017. She was then taken before the Special Judge of Assam's court. The jury sentenced Konwar in Special Case No. 22/2017 under section 7/13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 after multiple sessions.

Under PC Act section 7, Konwar was sentenced to three years of severe imprisonment and a fine of Rs 12,000 in default imprisonment of one month. Under PC Act 1988 section 13, the court also sentenced her to four years of continuous imprisonment and a fine of Rupees 20,000 in default of two months in jail (2). As a result of the event, the Personnel Department issued an order on Monday dismissing Nandita Konwar from her position.

After state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's permission and a comprehensive review of the prior court order, the decision was made. In 2015, she was detained by the Assam police's vigilance and anti-corruption branch for allegedly accepting bribes from a member of an NGO named Duga Sarovar Unnayan Samity.

Konwar was seized by police when she demanded money from the NGO's adviser, and she received a total of Rs 12,000 from him. Konwar is the daughter of Devananda Konwar, the former governor of Tripura and Bihar and a former member of the Assam Congress.
