New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday opposed the new guidelines on social media and OTT platforms. He tweeted several tweets expressing his inability to do so. In one of his tweets, Owaisi wrote that many messaging platforms are currently encrypted. So far, the message that we are sending among ourselves was known only to you and the receiver of the message, but now the government rules want to stop those platforms to find the promoter of the forwarded messages.”

He told in another tweet that the government is forcing the social media platforms to convey the message of individuals to the government citing the sovereignty/integrity of the country, the security of the state, friendly relations with foreign territories, or public order. . He wrote in another tweet that "the government already has a lot of power to survey but we do not have any privacy laws to protect us from a government that constantly wants to know about your personal discussion."

The central government has issued guidelines for the OTT platform. It was announced on Thursday by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Three frameworks have been created by the government for the OTT platform. According to the new guidelines, the social media platform will have to act on it within 72 hours of the central government's notice, the tech companies will have to appoint a complaint officer, deploy a chief compliance officer, to liaise with legal agencies. A nodal officer will have to be appointed.
