Now development will catch pace in Kashmir, plans to start metro by 2020

Srinagar: Preparations for change in Kashmir are getting much faster after The Removal of Section 370 of the Constitution. Now, in Kashmir too, the dream of the Metro will come true and it will join metropolitan cities like Delhi-Mumbai where the Metro train is running. The administration is working on the Metro in Srinagar. The DPR of the Metro (Detailed Project Report) has been prepared and the construction of Srinagar Metro will commence from 2020.

The 25 km long metro train project in Srinagar will be completed in 2 phases. The Srinagar Metro is divided into two parts namely Corridor-1 and Corridor-2. 12 stations will be built in a corridor. The metro project will be completed with a total of 24 stations, including both corridors. The Metro project will cost Takriban Rs 5,000 crore. Metro Man E Sreedharan has been appointed as the head of the Srinagar Metro Project.

Talking to media, Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar Shahid Chaudhary said, "We are preparing for the future of Srinagar. The population of Srinagar will increase in the coming days, which needs a metro now. We will operationalize the Metro train in Srinagar by 2024. The Metro project will provide jobs to 25 youths per km. The bidding process will start very soon.
