Government will set up centers for women in crisis internationally: Smriti Irani

New Delhi: Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani on Friday said that the Union Government has decided to set up centers to protect women and children in international crisis to deal with the international human trafficking nexus.

Addressing the inaugural session of the National Consultation on The Eradication of Human Trafficking, Union Minister Smriti Irani said that with the passage of the Human Trafficking (Prevention, Care and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2021, the government will enhance cooperation at the international level to combat cross-border trafficking. The event was organized by Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation and its affiliate group 'Bachpan Bachao Andolan'.

Irani further said that we have decided to set up a center for women who are in trouble or distress at the international level under a partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs on international trafficking alliances so that women and children can get protection. The Minister said, "I am confident that with the passage of this Bill, we will also enhance the cooperation internationally so that cross-border trafficking can be tackled, which is a matter of concern regarding trafficking in women and children."
