TOKYO: A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck the country on Tuesday. In view of this, the Government had issued a Tsunami warning. However, it was later withdrawn. So far 16 people have been injured in the disaster in different cities.

The country's Meteorological Department warned on Tuesday that waves of up to one meter high of the ocean could hit the coast of the Sea of Japan north of Tokyo. But waves were raised only 10 cm high. Japan's Meteorological Department withdraws tsunami warning three hours after the quake. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said his government is fully prepared to deal with the disaster. Citizens have been warned to be vigilant about the earthquake.

At the same time, local authorities said that 16 people were injured in Yamagata and Niigata province by the earthquake. The damage caused by the earthquake could not be assessed yet. The bullet train was stopped by the authorities immediately after the earthquake, though it started on Wednesday morning. An official of the agency said at an emergency meeting that people should be vigilant as a major earthquake could occur again. Bad weather has been forecast in Yamagata and Niigata. Landslides are also feared in the area.
