Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh minister and leader of the opposition Govind Singh has written a letter to CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday demanding a two-day assembly session. Govind Singh said that the power crisis in the state is deepening. Due to a shortage of coal and mismanagement, the thermal power stations in the State are on the verge of closure.
Govind Singh also said that out of the four power plants of Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company, 3 power plants are in a critical condition. The power generation capacity of Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Plant, Satpura Thermal Power Plant and Shri Singaji Thermal Plant has been reduced to half due to a shortage of coal and mismanagement, which is deepening the power crisis in the State. While the State does not have adequate availability of electricity in proportion to the demand, the State Government has paid Rs.900 crore to the power generation companies without taking a single unit of electricity last year.
The minister further said that on the one hand, due to the shortage of coal, the state government is in the process of buying foreign coal, which is proving to be hollow the claim of the state government that there is no shortage of coal in the state. Doubts are being raised over the state government's preparedness to buy foreign coal. There are unannounced power cuts across the state, while the electricity rates are being increased continuously and arbitrary electricity bills are being collected from the power consumers. The leader of the opposition wrote that due to continuous undeclared power cuts, and drinking water crisis, especially in urban and rural areas, industries are getting affected and the summer crops of farmers and vegetables are on the verge of extinction due to lack of irrigation. There is an outcry among the general public of the state over the power problems. In such a situation, it is very important to convene a two-day special session of the Assembly and hold a discussion on the situation arising out of the power problem so that the party and the opposition can jointly find a solution to the power crisis. Govind Singh told CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan that you are requested to take pains to convene a two-day special session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly keeping in view the above situation.
