Govinda Joins Shiv Sena: Will fight Lok Sabha elections from this seat

Mumbai: Former Member of Parliament and renowned Bollywood actor, Govinda Eknath, has recently joined the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde. There are speculations that Govinda might contest from the Mumbai-North-West Lok Sabha constituency against Amol Kirtikar of Shiv Sena's UBT faction. Govinda previously contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North under the Congress banner, where he defeated senior BJP leader Ram Naik. However, he distanced himself from politics after the 2009 elections.

Recently, Govinda had a second meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, fueling rumors of his return to politics. A spokesperson from the Shinde camp, Krishna Hegde, also visited Govinda at his residence, further intensifying speculation. However, NCP leader Jayant Patil took a jibe at Shinde for considering Govinda, stating that Shinde should have chosen a more popular actor.

In the backdrop of Maharashtra politics, seat-sharing has become a contentious issue for both the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances. Eknath Shinde is yet to finalize the seat-sharing arrangement with BJP and Ajit Pawar's NCP. Moreover, Shiv Sena's announcement of candidates for 17 Lok Sabha seats has irked both the Congress and NCP, led by Sharad Pawar.
