New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made several important announcements regarding Railways in the budget speech. Sitharaman said that a provision of Rs 1.10 lakh crore has been made for the year 2021-2022 for the railways. She said that resources like Railway Dedicated Freight Corridor, NHAI's toll road, the airport will be brought under the ambit of asset monetization management.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that in the last budget, we had provided 4.21 lakh crore for capital expenditure. 4.39 lakh crore rupees will be spent. There is a provision of 5.54 lakh crore rupees next year. She further said that the National Rail Plan 2030 is ready. She said that it is the target to build a future-ready rail system. She said that at this time our focus is on 'Make in India'. The Western and Eastern Freight Corridor will be ready by June 2022. Sitharaman said that the Son Nagar-Gomo section will be built on PPP mode.
Nirmala Sitharaman further said that East Coast Corridor Kharagpur-Vijayawada, Itarsi-Vijayawada Corridor will be prepared. She said that at present the length of the broad gauge - electrified rail line is 46 thousand km. Nirmala Sitharaman said that by December 2023, 100 percent will be electrified.
