New Delhi: In the DoT meeting on 5G that was held today, the government requested that mobile phone makers quickly release FOTA updates for 5G services. Handset manufacturers said, they are collaborating with carriers to streamline a strategy. A few phone makers have requested till the end of November to give out FOTA software updates.

The roll-out of 5G services across the nation was the topic of a meeting conducted by the administration on Wednesday. The Sanchar Bhawan meeting was organised to discuss how consumers' devices will be made 5G ready for the 5G services and networks.

The Telecom Secretary and the MeitY Secretary were present at the meeting when it was requested that FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) software updates be made available for all 5G devices. In order for phones to be powered by standalone networks, this upgrade is necessary.

During the conference, it was also discussed what software upgrades should be prioritised for early 5G rollout in the nation.

This follows statements made by companies like Airtel that the current SIM does not need to be changed. The 4G SIM will function in 5G phones, according to Airtel. The phone must support 5G, however changing one's SIM card won't be necessary. Jio has also declined to reveal any SIM card changes, but it is now developing a 5G phone that will soon be available.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Apple announced that it would provide 5G updates in December. In December, iPhone customers will start receiving software updates that enable 5G, according to the statement. Since 2020, every iPhone model is 5G-capable.

Samsung is in a similar situation. Samsung's A53, A33, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy M33, Flip4, Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Fold4 can all connect to a 5G network, however a large number of other models are not. The business claimed in a statement to have the largest selection of 5G equipment. In order to give Indian users a seamless 5G experience, the company stated it was committed to sending out OTA upgrades across all of its 5G devices by the end of November 2022.

85 percent of Realme's models already support SA. The most recent OnePlus devices are 5G-ready, although the 8, 8T, 8Pro, Nord 2, and 9R still require updates.

Users of Airtel can check the company's dedicated website to determine if their smartphone is compatible with Airtel 5G Plus in the meantime. A list of all 5G phone models from Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, iQOO, Apple, OnePlus, and Samsung that are compatible with Airtel 5G Plus is available on this website.

Jio has also stated that the majority of its 5G gadgets will work with its 5G network. Some devices could require an upgrade, but the device brands will push for that.
