Govt beefing up notaries' strength across 17 states & UTs

NEW DELHI:  The government has increased their total strength in 17 states and union territories against the backdrop of an increase in the number of aspirants for appointment as central  notaries, Union Minister SP Singh Baghel said. Andhra Pradesh will have 1,700 central notaries, while Gujarat will have 8,000, Union minister of state for law said in a tweet.

Similarly, their numbers will also rise in  Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Puducherry. "For the first time in history, 50 new vacancies have been created in Ladakh," he said.

The Department of Legal Affairs issued a notification on Friday revising the Notaries Rules in this regard.
The Notaries Act of 1952 was passed to regulate the notary profession. The Notaries Act of 1952 and subsequent guidelines give the federal government and state governments the authority to appoint notaries who meet the required requirements. The number of periods for renewing a notary's certificate of practise after the original appointment is unrestricted under current law, according to the Ministry.
