In this regard, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has said, "Due to unforeseen activities, the polio NID scheduled for 17th January 2021 has been postponed till further notice. The decision was made in a letter written on 9th January 2017. On that day, the government announced that India's COVID-19 vaccination campaign would start on January 16."

Earlier, the Union health minister had announced on January 8 that the three-day anti-polio campaign is going to start from 17th January. The health minister had said in the past, "parents should ensure that they will be given polio drops to children under the age of five on January 17. But now it is not going to happen. Now, the polio vaccination day on 17th January 2021 has been further extended." The exact reason for the removal of the campaign has not been given so far.

The Health Ministry has only made a statement that "Due to unforeseen activities, the program is cancelled till further orders. "Well, let us also tell you that there are large-scale polio drops campaigns in India and millions of children are given polio drops every year."
