Govt extends PM SVANidhi scheme till Dec 2024

NEW DELHI: The Central government has extended the PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme till December 2024. The centre has also introduced 3rd loan of upto Rs.50,000 besides the first and 2nd loans of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 20,000, respectively.

The scheme has the provision to extend the 'SVANidhi Se Samriddhi' component for all beneficiaries of the scheme across India.

It is pertinent to note that as of  November 30, 31.73 lakh street vendors have availed the advantages of the first Rs 10,000 loan. Out of these, 5.81 lakh have availed the benefits of the second Rs 20,000 loan. 6,926 street vendors have also utilised the third loan of Rs 50,000 in the meantime.

In a written response to the Lok Sabha on Thursday, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) stated that the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, which is being implemented by the appropriate State/UT, covers the topic of the creation of vending zones.

There are currently 13,403 vending zones in existence, according to the States/Unioin Territories. By December 2024, 42 lakh street sellers will receive benefits under the PM SVANidhi Scheme, according to the Ministry.

On June 1, 2020, the MoHUA will implement the PM SVANidhi initiative to assist street vendors in resuming their businesses after being negatively impacted by the Covid-19 epidemic.

Following the repayment of the prior loans, the first loan is up to Rs 10,000, followed by a second credit up to Rs 20,000 and a third loan up to Rs 50,000.
