The central government is going to take strict steps to protect pedestrians on the road. Through which new standards can be applied in cars from October this year. In addition, under these standards, it has become mandatory for all car and SUV vehicle manufacturers to install Pedestrian protection software in their vehicles.
The initiative started in 2018
In early 2018 the government recommended these changes to all upcoming new cars, including making new design bonnets. Due to which, if any accident happens to the pedestrians on the road, then they are least harmed.
1.5 million people died
According to the report of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, 1.5 lakh people die in road accidents every year. 60% of which are pedestrians. In view of this, strict rules have been made for the safety of pedestrians across the world. In order to minimize injury to pedestrians, a provision has been made to install front sensors in the front of the trains, which will be connected with software.
India lags behind America, Britain
On the other hand, the vehicles may have a special airbag unit, which with the help of infrared technology, the actuators will lift the engine hood upwards to avoid potential accidents, so that pedestrians can avoid exposure to harsh things like an engine. Automotive Safety Standards are currently far behind in India compared to the US and UK.
Earlier these features used to come in luxury cars
Now the government has been actively trying to implement the new rules. So that the life of pedestrians can be protected. Earlier, Pedestrian safety features used to come only in luxury trains, but gradually they are being implemented in all trains. 2019 showed the highest level of safety in vehicle safety standards, where all companies upgraded their vehicles according to the new safety standards before October.
Customers also become aware
The government is also preparing to start Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) crash test in the future. These tests are applicable in almost every country abroad, where ratings are given to vehicles according to these tests. New safety standards included features such as an anti-lock braking system, speed warning system, seat belt reminder, and airbags. All the vehicles currently available in India have these features. Customers have also become concerned about security aspects. Earlier consumers used to focus only on mileage, price, and brand, while now when buying a new car, they also ask about safety features and give it a priority.
These features will come in 2022
In addition to Pedestrian safety features, car companies are preparing to offer new safety features from 2022. These will include features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). All automakers are trying to see how these features can be implemented without increasing the price.
