Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said on Monday that the government has invited a meeting of cab aggregators like Ola and Uber on Tuesday to address their policies pertaining to fee calculation, surge pricing, ride cancellations, and measures taken by them for customer data protection.

The meeting was scheduled in response to an increase in consumer complaints about these platforms' alleged unfair trade practises, such as ride cancellation policies in which drivers force clients to cancel trips after accepting bookings, resulting in customers paying cancellation fines.

"We've asked cab aggregators for information on how they handle cancellation charges and surge pricing, as well as how they compute the fare," Singh said on the sidelines of a ministry event.

"We have inquired why the charges to get from point A to point B are different for two different people," he added. The ministry also wants to know if these ride-hailing applications have taken appropriate steps to protect customer data on their platforms.

"We have requested information." We'll talk to them about it, and then we'll decide what to do next," the secretary said.
