New Delhi: An important defence sector bill (Compulsory Defence Services Bill, 2021) was introduced on Tuesday amid uproar from the opposition in the Lok Sabha, which was later passed. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has termed the bill as very important for the security of the country. At the same time, the bill was opposed by the opposition. RSP Lok Sabha MP NK Ramachandran said the Government of India wants to privatise the ordnance factory and that is why the bill is being brought. Ramachandran opposed the bill saying its entire purpose was to stop the strike.

N.K. Ramachandran as well as Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary opposed the bill. Chaudhary said the House is not in order, such an important bill should not be passed at such a time. We want to discuss every bill, but the discussion should begin with Pegasus, he added. There was also a response from the government on the opposition's objection to the bill and the allegation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told the House that the Bill has been brought keeping in view the national security. The bill has been introduced keeping in view that there is no disruption in the supply of weapons or other defence equipment.

On the question of employees, the Defence Minister said that as far as the ordnance factory employees are concerned, we have had talks with all the unions, in a good atmosphere. This Act will come into effect only if an invoice is made, it may not be required. It will just remain effective for years.
