The Digital Personal Data Bill, 2022 draft has been presented by the Indian government. This Act aims to regulate the handling of digital personal data. In the parliamentary Monsoon Session earlier this year, the old Data Protection Bill was repealed. With the emphasis entirely on rules relating to user data, the ministry has since changed its name to the Personal Data Protection Bill.

According to the Digital Personal Data Bill, if it is reasonable to infer that the primary goal has been achieved, the entity collecting the data must stop keeping personal data or erase the means by which the personal data can be linked to specific Data Principals.

It also stipulates that user data shouldn't be kept around if it's not required for legal or commercial reasons.
The owner of biometric data has full control under the new Personal Data Protection bill. Even if an employer needs a worker's biometric information to track attendance, they will still need the worker's express permission.

KYC data will be impacted by the new Personal Data Protection Bill. Every time a savings account is opened, a ban must finish the KYC procedure. The new data protection bill also applies to the information gathered through this process. After the account has been closed for more than six months, the bank will need to keep KYC information on hand.

There are are new guidelines regarding the collection and storage of children's personal data. The organisation requesting the data will need the guardian's or parents' permission to access the information. Additionally, social media sites must ensure that children's data is not collected for the purpose of serving them with customised ads.
