The Odisha state government has issued a statement to announce that the decision to resuming schools and colleges in Odisha will be taken by the state government and not the education department.

This clarification was issued just hours after Odisha school and mass education and higher education department minister and secretary spoke about schools and colleges in the state opening in January, chief minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his displeasure saying the government will take appropriate decision at the right time after considering all aspects.

"The Chief Minister has criticized the statements made on reopening of schools and colleges in the state. The state government will take appropriate decisions in this regard after taking into consideration of different factors,” said the statement issued by the Odisha CM’s office.  The statement was issued after a review meeting chaired by the chief minister concluded. The Chief Minister said that the right decision to reopen schools and colleges would be made only after keeping various factors in mind and assessing the Covid-19 situation.

Earlier,  on December 7, the higher education department had written to universities and colleges not to conduct examinations till the physical mode of teaching is resumed in their respective educational institutions.
