New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is preparing to implement a policy that will make traveling on highways and expressways more convenient and comfortable, as per sources. As per reports, the policy is nearing completion and will be announced in two months.
The sources add, the initiative aims to construct wayside amenities such as eateries, washrooms, electric car charging stations, gas pumps, and other facilities that would help people driving on National Highways and expressways feel less tired.
On a Public-Private partnership (PPP) basis, the government wants to build such roadside facilities in 600 locations across India. According to sources familiar with the situation, the government wants private companies to build and operate world-class services for highway users.
Developers would be assisted by the government in resolving land, connectivity, and regulatory difficulties. Both greenfield and brownfield developments will include such facilities. Because the amount of land available for establishing wayside amenities with the Highway Authorities is limited, private land owners/developers will be urged to invest in such facilities, according to persons acquainted with the development.
