New Delhi: In view of the costly petrol-diesel and crude oil production crisis, the government is working on a plan to increase the number of vaccine fuel CNG fuel stalking stations. The government plans to increase the number of CNG stations in smaller cities where people are not interested in buying CNG vehicles due to shortage of CNG stations.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameshwar Teli said, "As on May 31, 2021, there are 3,179 CNG stations in the country and PNGRB has assigned a minimum work program of 8181 CNG stations to be set up by authorized companies over the next 8-10 years. Setting up of CNG stations is part of the development of the city gas distribution network and is done by companies authorized by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

He said that around 232 geographical areas have been authorized for the development of the CGD network covering 407 districts spread over 27 States/UTs of the country. To ensure the security of the supply of crude oil and to reduce the risk of dependence on crude oil from the same sector, oil marketing companies are procuring crude oil from countries located in different geographical regions like the Middle East, Africa, North America, South America, etc.
