New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told the Rajya Sabha on Friday that a Committee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) will be announced after the Assembly elections in five states, reiterating the government's commitment to farmers' welfare.
During Question Hour, the Minister made the statement while responding to a question.
In light of assembly elections in five states, Tomar said the government had written to the Election Commission (EC) about the Committee on MSP's announcement. He said, the Election Commission has urged that the announcement of the Committee on MSP be made after the elections in five states are completed.
In November of last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the formation of a committee to investigate the farmers' demand for a legal guarantee on MSP, as well as the repeal of three farm regulations.
The entire country is aware that the Prime Minister has announced the formation of a committee to ensure effective and transparent crop diversification, natural farming, and MSP. The government intends to follow through on the Prime Minister's announcement. The Ministry is considering the situation, and the Committee's announcement will be made after the Assembly elections," Tomar stated.
