New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal reviewed the progress of the forthcoming India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICC) at Dwarka in the national capital on Wednesday and instructed officials to finish the project on time.

The IICC is the Government of India's flagship project, and it is being built to construct a state-of-the-art, world-class exhibition and conference centre to boost MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) activities in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project on September 20, 2018.

"It will act as a major economic driver, assisting India in capturing a larger portion of the global market for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibits," Goyal added.

The convention centre (to accommodate 11,000 people), 5 exhibition halls, one kilometer-long Foyer, Multi-purpose Arena with a retractable roof (to accommodate 20,000 people), 3/4/5 Star Hotels, office space, and commercial/retail space are all planned over an area of 89.72 hectare in Sector 25 Dwarka, New Delhi, with a total FAR of 10.70 lakh square metres (sqm).

There will be two phases to the project's development. Phase-I will include a conference centre (60,000 square metres) and two exhibition halls (61,000 square metres), as well as the project's trunk infrastructure. Phase-II will be constructed after Phase-I, and will include the building of three more exhibition halls, an arena, hotels, retail, and office space.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is building a dedicated underground Metro station as an expansion of the Airport Express Metro, which is being sponsored by IICC Ltd. With dedicated interchanges along the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II, an enlarged ring road within Delhi, the project site also has great road connectivity.
