Grandmaster RB Ramesh, who recently resigned as the chief elector of AICF, on Saturday condemned the government's lack of recognition for domestic coaches, saying that despite giving the country several medal winners, they ignore them at the national awards . Ramesh is coaching young legendary player R Pragganandha of Chennai, his sister Vaishali, national champion Arvind Chitambaram and Karthikeyan Murali. He has resigned from the post of Chief Elector of AICF on Tuesday, citing the alleged interference of officials of opposing teams. He tweeted many, saying, "The less told about the award of the coach of Team India or the coach of the players of India, the better it will be. In the last 15 years I have not been given any award for producing a medal winning player."
He said, "Despite the achievements given below, the Central Government has not given me any award. 1. World Youth Medal = 34, 2. Asian Youth Medal = 40, 3. Commonwealth Medal = 23, 4. National Title = 36, 5. Asian Senior Medal = 5, 6. Bronze Medal in Chess Olympiad. Is there a policy?" Ramesh condemned the earlier system of getting India's coaches less remuneration than their foreign counterparts, which the Sports Ministry recently decided to abolish. The ministry removed the upper limit of salary of 2 lakh rupees for the coaches of India some time ago so that they can take them to their foreign counterparts.
Ramesh said in another tweet, "In the India system, the coaches of the country are being undermined. Foreign coach means to forget about 5 to 10 times more fees, coach capacity and results. The slave mind that has been in existence for centuries under colonialism is still one of the most popular among many people. Can you guess how much salary a coach has given for the Olympiad, World Chess Championship, Asian Championship? I was paid almost 10 times less than the 'foreign coach'. If I am not wrong, I did the same thing as the coach abroad. So I refused one camp after another."
