There was a time when Indian cricket team having the most dependable person at number 3, Rahul Dravid. Dravid has served the side being the wall for the opponents who was hard to crack and a comfortable shield to the home team when they face early wicket collapses.
He has faced so many fast and spin bowlers during his long career and has made everyone sweat to get the wicket against him. He has scored patiently against each of them and Australian being the favourite.
In his recent talk, he has shared his experience of facing the fast bowlers across the tours of various nations. He regarded Aussie Glenn Mcgrath as one of the best fast bowlers he has ever faced. Glenn Mcgrath was known for his consistency in the bowling and by putting the balls in the same spot he used to check the patience of the batsman. Happily, Dravid used to give a tough competition to the bowling legend.
“They (Australia) were the best cricket team in my generation. Amongst them all, the greatest bowler that I played against, not only the greatest Australian bowler but the greatest fast bowler (that) I played against has to be Glean McGrath,” said Dravid.
“He (McGrath) was absolutely (brilliant), no one challenged my knowledge of the off-stump as much as McGrath did. He was relentless and gave you nothing. A lot of times, whether he is bowling in the first hour of the morning or late in the afternoon of in the evening, he (McGrath) was going to give you nothing, he was relentless (and the) accuracy,” said Dravid.
It feels really good when one legend in batting talks about the other legend in the competition of bowling.
