ATHENS: The Greek government has unveiled a fresh set of steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 throughout the Christmas season.
Following the detection of the Omicron variant, the government has decided to postpone all public holiday activities, make mask wear mandatory both indoors and outdoors, and implement additional travel safety precautions. At a press conference on Thursday, Health Minister Thanos Plevris said. He advised all travellers entering Greece to retake Covid-19 testing on the second and fourth days after their arrival.
"These precautions, which will be in effect until January 3, are sufficient to celebrate Christmas and New Year without endangering public health," he said, according to Greek state television ERT.A special panel advising the government on the pandemic will make new recommendations next week for more measures to be implemented early next year, depending on the epidemic's progress. Greek last reported 5,641 new coronavirus infections and 69 deaths in less than 24 hours.
