New Delhi: Climate activist Disha Ravi has been arrested in connection with the “toolkit” shared by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and others on Twitter to extend support to the farmers' protest underway at several border points of New Delhi.
Cyber Cell team of the Delhi Police arrested a 21-year-old activist. On February 4, the Cyber Cell had registered an FIR against "pro-Khalistan" creators of the "toolkit" for waging a "social, cultural and economic war against the Government of India". The police had said that a pro-Khalistan group named “Poetic Justice Foundation” is the creator of the "toolkit".
A senior police officer said that while trailing the toolkit related to the farmers' protest, they tracked Ms. Ravi in Bengaluru. A police team was sent to arrest her. Police has also seized her laptop and mobile phone for further investigation. She was brought to Delhi where she was formally arrested and will be produced before a magistrate. Officer added, "“We have found that she made several changes in the toolkit related to farmers protest and further spread it in certain groups on social media."
Recently, Delhi police had registered an FIR under Section 124A (sedition), 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) against the people who created and spread toolkit.
Earlier, the Delhi Police had asked Google and some social media platforms to give information about email id, URLs and certain social media accounts related to the creators of the "toolkit" shared by Thunberg and others.
