Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, a Defence PSU based in Kolkata, has clinched a significant export deal worth $54 million with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH and Co. KG, a Germany-based shipping company. The agreement, signed on Saturday, outlines the construction and delivery of four versatile cargo vessels.

According to the official statement from GRSE, these multi-purpose vessels are slated for completion within 33 months, with provisions for constructing an additional four ships in the future. Each vessel will measure 120 meters in length and 17 meters in width, capable of transporting up to 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo.

"The ships will feature a single cargo hold to accommodate bulk, general, and project cargoes, with containers carried on hatch covers. They have been specially designed to transport large windmill blades on deck," GRSE highlighted.

GRSE has been actively diversifying its portfolio beyond warship manufacturing, recently delivering an offshore patrol vessel to Mauritius, a fast patrol vessel to Seychelles, and a passenger-cum-cargo ferry to Guyana. Currently, the company is engaged in constructing six patrol boats and a dredger for Bangladesh.

The agreement was formalized by Commodore Shantanu Bose (Retd), Director (Shipbuilding) of GRSE, and Carsten Thomas Rehder, Managing Director of the German firm. The signing ceremony was attended by Commodore P R Hari (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director of GRSE.
