New Delhi: The Defense Producing Public Sector Undertaking GRSE has supplied the eighth and final Light Craft Utility (LCU) vessel to the Indian Navy, which has further strengthened the country's defence preparedness. The top officer of the company has given information in this regard. Rear Admiral (Retd) VK Saxena, Chairman and Managing Director of GRSE said that this abattoir (capable of running on water and land) will be strategically positioned near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of the South China Sea. It is near the important sea route.

He said that it has been specially designed to carry out military operations in the most inaccessible coastal areas. Saxena said that despite the challenges of the global pandemic coronavirus and its enforced lockdown, Kolkata-based Garden Rich Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has successfully delivered the last vessel to the Indian Navy as part of eight LCU shipbuilding operations.

The LCU vessel uses state-of-the-art technology and the company has manufactured it with 90% indigenous components. Saxena has stated, "This vessel is special in terms of world-class design and class. It is designed keeping in mind the special needs of the Indian Navy. It can operate well in shallow coastal areas with a speed of 15 knots.
