SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh's Department of Taxes and Excise announced on Sunday that it collected Rs 497 crore under GST in April, a 17 percent increase over the previous month's collection of Rs 426 crore. The GST yearly targets were exceeded by around Rs 248 crore in 2021-22, with a total collection of Rs 4,390 crore.
According to a government statement, the department has planned a project to increase capacity and increase revenue in order to improve GST collections. The project's major goal is to improve the department's ICT (information and communication technology) infrastructure.
The department is also establishing a GST training unit to ensure that officials' capacity is maintained. The execution of the departmental reform, which has been mostly authorised by the Cabinet, combined with well-trained tax officers, is projected to boost GST revenue collections in the 2019 fiscal year, according to the statement.
The department continues to focus on improving return filing, rapid examination of returns, prompt completion of GST audits, and stronger enforcement. The department aims to improve on the 2.5 lakh e-way bill verifications it completed in the previous year's road checking programme. It is committed to improving voluntary compliance through timely redress of stakeholder complaints under the Tax Haat Program.
