Mumbai: On Monday, a Goods and Service Tax (GST) superintendent has committed suicide by jumping off the 30th floor of the World Trade Centre at Cuffe Parade in Mumbai. The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Harendra Kapadia. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The incident occurred on Monday evening around at 6.30 pm. According to the sources, he was reportedly upset with his illness. The victim stopped attending office around 8 months back after suffering a brain stroke. "Kapadia was fed-up with his illness. Around 8 to 10 months ago he had stopped coming to work because of a brain stroke. After that he had gone through brain surgery at Kokilaben hospital," the report quoted an officer as saying.
The officer further said that the victim joined the office some three months ago, but continue to suffer from dementia. "Initial investigation revealed that he was fed up with his illness and hence took the drastic step," the officer explained. The relatives of the officer have been informed about his demise.
In the meantime, the local police have lodged a case of Accidental Death Record (ADR) and are probing the matter. The Mumbai police have recorded the statement of people present on duty.
