Now such taxpayers will not have to bear the burden of late fees. The government has fixed the maximum late fee of only 500 rupees on the monthly and quarterly sales returns and GSTR-3B (GSTR-3B) tax payments till July 2020.

In its statement, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) said in a statement, 'While giving major relief to GST taxpayers, the government has only imposed maximum late fee on tax payments from GSTR-3B for the tax period July 2017 to July 2020. 500 rupees has been fixed. The condition in this is that these GSTR-3B returns should be filed before 30 September 2020.

CBIC said that if there is no tax liability, then there will be no late fee. Where there is any tax liability, the maximum late fee will be charged at the rate of Rs 500 per return on 30 September 2020, when the GSTR-3B return is filed. All categories of businessmen will get this benefit.
