New Delhi: Athletes and coaches at the Delhi government-run Thyagaraj Stadium are complaining that they are being forced to complete their training ahead of time. According to him, the reason for this is that for the past few months, Delhi's Principal Secretary (Revenue) Sanjeev Khirwar has been coming here to walk his dog.
One of the coaches said, "We used to train at 8-8.30 pm earlier. But now we are asked to get out of the field by 7 pm so that the authorities can drive their dog to the ground. Our training and practice routine has been disrupted. According to media reports, when contacted, Khirwar, a 1994-batch IAS officer, termed the allegation as "absolutely baseless". He admitted that he "occasionally" takes his pet dog for a walk, but denies that this hinders athletes' practice routines.
According to the report, in the past, the guards of the stadium have been seen going towards the track at around 6.30 pm, blowing whistles and ensuring that the arena is cleaned by 7 pm. Stadium administrator Ajit Chaudhary told the media that the official time in the evening is 4-6 pm, but "given the heat" they allow athletes to train till 7 pm. However, Chaudhary did not share any official orders specifying the timing. He said he had no information that any government official was using the facilities after 7 pm.
