New Delhi: The central government has announced a new guideline on changes in policy and intermediary accountability for social media companies. In addition, the government has also issued new guidelines for OTT platforms. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar have held a press conference in this regard today. Ravi Shankar Prasad said that poor language was being used on social media. But now the government will not consent to objectionable content on social media.

Ravi Shankar Prasad said that we have seen that individuals are now using social media to spread violence. He said that now three levels of social media will be monitored. Companies will have to deploy a Chief Compliance Officer, who will handle complaints. Companies have to remove objectionable posts against women within 36 hours. Companies have to report to the government every month on following the rules.

Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government had to tell about the objectionable post earlier. Rules have to be followed within three months. This decision of the government is very commendable, it will stop many objectionable things, and it is a reasonable step for the coming generation.
