Gujarat: At the event of the 152nd birth anniversary of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, a prayer meeting was taken palce today at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. Customarily, every year all-religion prayer meets are being organised at the Sabarmati Ashram, also called the Gandhi Ashram, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia,  Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi reached Rajghat in the national capital to pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

‘Bowing’ to ‘respected Bapu’ on Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that Mahatma Gandhi’s noble principles are globally relevant and give strength to millions.

UN chief Antonio Guterres urged the world to heed Gandhi’s message of peace, and commit to building a “better future for all” on International Day of Non-Violence. He further said that it’s time to usher in a new era of peace, trust and tolerance. “Hatred, division and conflict have had their day,” he said.

Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar town of Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi adopted a non-violent resistance and was at the forefront of India's freedom struggle against colonial British rule with utmost patience.
