NEW DELHI: Ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections, the Congress party has appointed segment-by-segment observers in each of the 26 parliamentary constituencies. For the party work, a total of 37 leaders, including MLAs from different states, have been selected. Most of the leaders hail from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.

The Congress has held meetings in Delhi to prepare for the polls and both the state and national leaders are deliberating on this.

In the lead-up to the Assembly elections, scheduled for later this year, the Central Congress leadership has asked its Gujarat unit to desist from making personal attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to raise people's issues and target the BJP policies in the run-up to the Assembly polls, slated for later this year.

In a lengthy five-hour meeting on Monday, the Congress task force urged the leaders of Gujarat to unify in order to prepare for the Assembly elections and unseat the BJP, which has ruled the state for the previous 27 years. The party will emphasize the state government's failure, particularly during the Covid epidemic, as part of its agenda.

Notably, Congress has recently experienced some high-profile exits and suffered a setback in the local body elections. The leader of the Patidar protest, Hardik Patel, has also shifted his allegiance and joined the BJP.

The task force meeting was attended by Congress heavyweights Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K.C. Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala, Ajay Maken, former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, and poll strategist Sunil Kanugolu.
