Gandhinagar: Gujarat has become the third state in the country in terms of number of corruption offenses. It is behind only Tamil Nadu and Odisha with an index of 1,677.34 in NITI Aayog data. Tamil Nadu's corruption index is 2,492.45 per million citizens, while Odisha's index is 2,489.83. According to the Gujarat Vigilance Commission report, over 40,000 complaints related to corruption were filed in Gujarat in the last 5 five years.

Action was taken against 800 employees in the cases related to corruption for the above five years. This report was presented by the state Home Minister Pradeep Singh Jadeja himself. At the same time, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) also said that the number of corruption cases in 2018 has doubled compared to 2017. The number of accused involved in the crimes of corruption has increased from 216 in 2017 to 729 in 2018.

The revenue department has the highest number of corruption cases in the state. Urban Development was at number two and Ministry of Home Affairs at number three. This fact brings into question the Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, who has often said that corruption has been curbed in his government. But, these complaints are telling that they are not able to stop corrupt officials and employees.
