AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Congress seems to be extremely concerned about its declining performance and especially the rise of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). According to a recent survey, the contest in Saurashtra is being told between BJP and AAP, while Congress is at the third position. If Gujarat signals that assembly elections are no longer bilateral, the Congress is beginning to worry that the trend will spread to Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as well.

In a meeting in Delhi, a Gujarat Congress leader said that, unlike the last assembly elections, when Rahul Gandhi worked hard in the state. But, this time Rahul Gandhi has not even visited Gujarat and the assembly elections are due in December. He reminded Rahul Gandhi that during the 2017 elections he had promised Gujarat voters that he would visit the state every two months. Congress Organizing Secretary KC Venugopal said during the meeting that the real problem was that people used to shy away from telling the truth to Rahul Gandhi. A party MP also supported Venugopal's point.

Let us tell you that the assembly elections in Gujarat are proposed later this year. Usually, the main contest between the BJP and the Congress has been in the Gujarat elections, but this time the entry of AAP has increased the tension of the Congress. AAP supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is constantly visiting Saurashtra in Gujarat. Along with Kejriwal, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has also campaigned for AAP in Gujarat.
