Vadodara: A fire broke out in a sawmill in the Harni area of Vadodara city of Gujarat and spread to two other wood in the vicinity. Vadodara Fire and Emergency Services (VFES) has sent 16 fire tenders and 40 fire tenders from six fire stations in the city to control the fire. No damage has been reported and investigation has been initiated into the cause of the fire.

It is said that at around 9.30 pm on Monday, the VFES fire station in Harni received information about a fire in the premises of Jalaram Timber Mart. In view of the extent of the fire, VFES dispatched 10 fire tenders from all fire stations in the city. All fire stations in the city have been alerted. The godown was mainly littered with plywood and tin sheets were also fenced on the edges, causing the fire to spread rapidly. It even spread to two other wooden warehouses on the edges.

Though no damage has been reported, the densely populated area has been put on alert and some houses have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. The official said the heat emanating from the site of the fire also shattered glass glasses of the nearest residential colony. 40 firemen and 16 fire tenders had to work for nearly four hours to completely control the fire. VFES Chief Fire Officer Partha Brahmabhatta said the fire may have been caused by aerial firecrackers.
