Gujarat High Court has given relief to Hardik Patel, leader of Patel Reservation Movement, in a riot case in 2015. The court suspended the order of the lower court for two years in prison in this case.
Justice SH Vohra also approved the bail of Hardik Patel in the case. According to the order of the High Court, Hardik will not have to surrender before the police till the hearing of the case continues. Earlier, Hardik had challenged Vidyanagar court's decision on July 25.
It is to be known that in Gujarat, 146 communities (other backward classes) have been reserved under OBC, which includes Muslim community. The OBC community gets a reservation of 27 per cent in government jobs, while the SC gets 7.5 per cent and ST gets a reservation of 15 per cent.
Reservation in Gujarat was started in the year 1981. The then government headed by the then Chief Minister Madhav Singh Solanki, Justice A. R. Based on the recommendations of Bakshi Commission, the reservation for socially and economically backward castes was started. At that time, the Patidars had organized this movement across the state.
These movements gradually took the form of a riot, in which more than a hundred people were killed. The case was a bit quiet for some years after this incident, but in 2012 again changed the mind of the Patidars and again they demanded reservation.
