Gujarat civic elections: BJP leads in 20 district panchayats, 'AAP' victory in Jamnagar

Ahmedabad: Voting for 81 municipal bodies, 31 district panchayats, and 231 taluka panchayats in Gujarat is being counted today. These elections were held on Sunday with 58.82 percent voting in the municipal bodies, while 65.80 percent voting was done in the district panchayats and 66.60 percent in the taluka panchayats. The performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the earlier elections was excellent, so everyone's eyes are on the outcome today. The results are also important because next year assembly elections are proposed in Gujarat.

According to media reports, the BJP continues to lead in the initial trend. BJP candidates are leading in 20 districts including Mehsana, Kutch, while in the meanwhile, the Jamnagar tehsil panchayat has won the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the candidate. Voting was again held on Monday at a polling station in Godia in Jhalod taluka of Dahod district after three people broke EVMs during the election on Sunday. Officials said about 50 percent of the votes were cast during the re-election.

In the results of the elections of six municipal corporations in Gujarat on February 21, the Bharatiya Janata Party won a majority in all the metropolitan municipalities. The BJP had achieved great success by winning 449 seats out of the total 576 seats in the Gujarat Municipal Corporation. The Congress won 44 seats. Congress did not win a single seat in Surat.
